I oftern watch signs on the quality of the players in a farming group, espically for the long trips. I would rather leave if I see a group that shows no protential in suceeding a mission, or just immature (for their behaviour), then to find out after one hour of teaming with them when we all fall.

Quality, by that, I mean, the character/personality of the player, rather then just his experience in playing the game.

Because most of the time, a team worker, simpily works out better then an egotistic player who expect the rest of the team to play in a certain way.

Another thing I think a poor player would do its thouse who spam the map, or just spaming.

In thunderhead keep: "I have done this mission before and completed game 10 times. Follow my lead = mission succes." We eventually died before getting to fort.

I don't understand why some people here judge people coz of their character names. I don't care much what's their name. And if they say "Go go go." Only things that I care in my pug are professions, level and behavior. With behavior I mean also their spelling. I don't mind if he or she really is bad at english but that leet talk I dont stand. "k me pwn j00 ass tbh m8 ty cu l8er."

I disagree with this point. The modem doesn't always mean that you will load slow. The system does. I know of a couple of players that loaded slow simply because they lacked enough ram for the fast loading and these were people on BROADBAND connections.

When I played on a 56k modem, I fooled many into thinking I had broadband simply because my maching had 512MBs of memory that made the game load very quickly.

And NOW there are many who are loading slow simply because the decompression of the files is taking forever.

SO #4a is completely unfounded.

GOGOGOGO while VERY annoying (as well as excessive CAPS use) is just as annoying as the build thing. You won't tell me your build, you won't change your build. I build myself thank you. If your build can't work with mine, sorry it does with henchies. The only time this is a problem is when a build is dependant on others. I only speak from a PVE point, in PVP builds have every right to be important.

Names? first impressions only. After that it's all your actions.

Anyone one who automatically judges something.

Any two characters whose names are similar ie "amy loves bret and bret loves amy" ...."shudder".....

I've noticed that people who put effort into communicating well almost always put effort into playing well. I like to message people with fairly inconsequential questions (as in, what's your elite?), and accept or reject them on the quality of the response. That is to say, people that that reply with 'Gladiator's defense, why?' get preference over ones that grunt 'glad def.' (no, this is not a hard and fast rule, and it goes straight out the window if someone tells me they don't speak english fluently)

When I join a group and there is a list of 4+ blind invites, that's a good reason to press the leave button immediatly.

I'd have to say people who stick fanatically to the 5-man teams for Sorrow's Furnace. Of course, that may very well get under my skin simply because I enjoy playing a Mesmer. This segues very nicely to my personal red flag of people insulting the usefulness of Mesmers, calling them worthless and wanting them kicked from the team. Those people will be kicked in their place.

Used to happen to me. I have broadband, and even on my friend's cable line, I loaded extremely slow because I was playing on a lappy. Got my sexeh new Desktop now though

Names do tend to indicate personality. If there is someone whose name is "I R l33t" then I'm not going to be in a rush to get them over a person called "Thora Tempest". I just like well thought out names, because a lot of the time (I know there are those of you that are good players without fantasy names) it means they've thought about their name, and are likely to think about the game.

gotta agree with most stuff in here. Now let me say right off the bat, i dont group anymore. Henchies all the way. BUT back when I did group, the names as well as behaviour would be the way I checked people. If it was a 'dodgy' name then I'd give them a chance, but be wary. 9 times out of 10, a name referring to drugs, insults or leet speak is something to avoid. Not always of course. But mostly. They're usually the kind who "omg you didnt heal me wtf are the rest of you doing?" all the time. Like the one with "biatch" as part of their name who was a necro tanking everything... seriously, it was like watching a darn greyhound whenever she saw mobs, that was it. Off like a shot. Outran our warriors every time.

I think there are probably times I don't get into a group because of the name I gave my monk. I find the idea of that very amusing though, since I put a bit of thought into it. I even mispelled paladin on purpose, because I liked it better. I don't imagine people would get it if they don't like the music artist though.

People like you crack me up.

Lets take the game way to seriously and ruin someones playing experience and chances of experiencing new things just because you dont like their name. I have been in plenty of groups that are ochestrated by the "I am the all knowing being, superior to everyone" people like you, Makes sure everyone has the right skills, knows what they are doing, and takes like an hour in the outposts mostly being an arrogant jackass.... only to zone into fow or wherever and fail miserably, thus blamming everyone but him or herself. It doesnt matter who is in your group (with the exception of guilded groups) wether you succeed or not purely depends on everyone doing their part, equally. If you have one person in the group who is picky and cannot play in groups unless he or she has complete control over everything and everyone then the rest of the group wont feel the need to try because you obviously seem like you have everything under control. I have been in groups with people who are the stereotypical "noob" and we owned because no one gave a damn, we just play - Afterall thats what games are for and this is a game so stop treating it like youre drafting a team for the world series or something.

1. People that insist on only taking Build X, Y, and Z. These players lack the spine, initiative, and ability to think on their feet as they know only how to play with what they read works.

2. People that insist on only Profession X, Y, and Z. See above.

3. People with the "I've done this before, and none of you have ever played Guild Wars before this moment" mentality.

4. People that lack basic situational awareness in regards to aggro radius, mob placement, target priorities, AoE spells, wards, and wells. This is generally the easiest to resolve so long as they are of an open mind.

That about sums it up for any group, regardless of whether its for a mission, quest, or farming run.

Damnit, there goes our guild. The majority of us have fantasy names

You can draw basic assumptions from a name, but much better from the player's attitude. But still, thats not a good gauge... we've had an officer in our guild with the caps lock button stuck, yet still a very capable player. We also have an officer in our guild currently that always, always uses names that include the words 'zomg' and various others, yet somehow is not incompetent. Just goes to show... something.

I (and several other guildies) like to yell 'vrooooooooooooooooooom gogogo!' after being hit with Chimera of Intensity in Abbadon's Mouth, does that make me a bad player?

What amuses me most are the three or four people here who didn't understand the thread at all.

I knew that my guildie would retaliate and feared that the group would soon disband. Her comment, something along the lines of "If you hadn't run out to Africa I would have been able to heal you" I expected an arguement to ensue, but oddly enough it turned out into a group joke. Someone said something along the lines of "Can I go to South America? Is that within healing range?" We had a great time and the Tank did a good job of not running off after that.

I have a pretty good sense for the trouble makers before a group starts. I usually like to be the party leader so that I have control of kicking the ones I suspect to be a problem. I've been running into a lot of freeloaders recently too, so now I insist that people indicate ready before starting or at least say something.

Gogogo's will get a warning from me, otherwise they get kicked.

If someone is being extremely bossy and starts telling/forcing people to change their builds, they get kicked.

I will also make some sort of statement before a troublesome area Tombs, FoW, etc along the lines of "We are here to get through this cooperatively and kindly. Does anyone have any issues with that?" If nothing else you get a good feel for people.

I try tanking the Shadow Warriors down in FoW sometimes. If one of 'em gets past the warriors, and they're beating on us casters, I move into position and once I get aggro I just throw on my Sympathetic Visage, then hex them so they end up killing themselves. I've tried throwing it onto the other casters who are getting smacked, but they never realize I put it on them and just run away. I figure I'm less likely to die with SV on myself as opposed to some other caster who's getting smacked, and I believe its easier for monks to heal other characters than themselves, so rather than just leading them around through the casters I just tank it myself. Of course, once the warriors show up I try to switch aggro... it'd be just plain stupid to keep tanking with warriors there.

When I go to the effort of making any group, I always, always specifically ask for 'not dumb' people. Someone invites themselves, I accept, my first question is invariably, "Hello, are you dumb?"

The number of people who cannot answer this is mindblowing.
